Oh, come, all you lads and lassies (Venid aquí muchacos y muchachas)
And listen to me a while (Y escuchadme un ratito)
And I'll sing for you a verse or two (Y os cantaré un par de versos)
That will cause you all to smile (Que os despertarán una sonrisa)
It's all about a fair young man (Trata de un buen mozo)
I'm going to tell you now (Que os voy a contar)
How he lately came acourtin' of (Cómo terminó cortejando a)
The maid of the sweet brown knowe (La muchacha de la Dulce Colina Marrón)

Said he, "My pretty fair maid (Fue y le dijo: “Mi buena doncella,)
Will you come along with me? (Por qué no te vienes conmigo)
We'll both go off together (Nos iremos juntos)
And it's married we will be (Y nos casaremos)
We'll join our hands in wedlock bands (Uniremos nuestras manos con los lazos del matrimonio)
I'm speaking to you now (Tal como te digo)
And I'll do my best endeavor for (Y me esforzaré y trabajaré para)
The maid of the sweet brown knowe (La muchacha de la Dulce Colina Marrón”)

This fair and fickle young thing (Esta bonita e imprevisible niña)
She knew not what to say (No supo qué decir)
Her eyes did shine like silver bright (Sus ojos brillaron como la plata luminosa)
And merrily did play (Y con gracia jugueteó)
She said, "Young man, your love's subdued (Dijo: “Mi joven señor, su amor me seduce)
For I'm not ready now (Pero no estoy lista todavía)
And I'll spend another season at (Y me pasaré otra estación en)
The foot of the sweet brown knowe (Al pie de la Dulce Colina Marrón”)

Said he, "My pretty fair maid (Dijo él: “Mi buena y hermosa muchacha,)
How can you answer so? (¿Cómo me puedes decir eso?)
Look down on yonder valley (Mira allá abajo en el valle)
Where my verdant crops do grow (Donde crecen verdes mis cultivos)
Look down on yonder valley (Mirá allá abajo en el valle)
Where horses, men and plow (Donde mis caballos, hombres y arado)
Are at their daily labor for (Trabajan a diario para)
The maid of the sweet brown knowe (La muchacha de la Dulce Colina Marrón”)

"If they're at their daily labor (“Si trabajan a diario,)
Kind sir, it is not for me (Amable Señor, no es para mí)
For I've heard of your behavior (Pues he escuchado lo que hace por ahí,)
For I have indeed," said she (Le aseguro que sí”, dijo ella)
"There is an inn where you call in (“Hay una posada que frecuenta,)
I've heard the people say (Es lo que he oído decir)
And you rap and you call and you pay for all (Y en la que entra, pide y paga por todo)
And go home at the break of day (Para volver a casa al amanecer”)

"If I rap and I call and I pay for all (“Si entro, pido y pago por todo)
The money it is my own (Es con dinero mío que es)
And I'll never spend your fortune (Y nunca me gastaré tu fortuna)
For I hear that you have none (Pues escuché que no tienes ninguna)
You thought you had my poor heart broke (Pensaste que me romperías el corazón)
Talking with me now (Al decirme estas cosas)
But I'll leave you where I found you (Pero te dejo donde te encontré)
At the foot of the sweet brown knowe" (Al pie de la Dulce Colina Marrón.)
